What is the connection between fall and soup? Why is it when October comes around you want soup? Even in Florida where it does not get too cold, we still have the thought of having some tasty soup. Split Pea is my personal favorite. I've added that to the recipe section. I've eliminated the dairy and made it creamy it with a potato (skin still on-it's healthier that way). To me, it's one of those things that you can't believe it has no butter. It really doesn't. I'm exploring different kinds of soups right now. Some popular ones are squash or zucchini or potato. I will enter the cooking cave this week to come up with some recipes. Also in the cooking cave, I've been requested by some of you to come up with some gluten free, wheat free and yeast free recipes. The cave will be busy this week. The cooking cave is looking more like a mad scientists laboratory. Once you are in you are in. Just in time for Halloween. Maybe I can make some soup to the tune of Monster Mash - remember that one, "it was a grave yard smash".... This was a Halloween song which came out many years ago and the ones who remember it, probably won't admit to remembering it. But can any of you name the artist??????
This Wednesday night at the BK Meditation Center in Miami we have a special guest speaker, Dr. John Lewis. Dr. John will be doing a class on "Restoring Optimal Health Through Nutrition and Exercise." Dr. John was the Dr. in charge of the study I did at the University of Miami regarding food sensitivities and the elimination diet. He helped me get my health back on track .
Until next week
This is an acorn squash stuffed with wild rice. It's absolutely delicious and looks great too! The recipe is in the recipe section.
Try it you won't regret it.
MAKE THE SHIFT- Eat Less Animal Foods and Eat More Plant based food.
The month of October is National Vegetarian Awareness month. This is the month to experiment. More and more reasons to become vegetarian are coming to view. Here are a few:
1. Consciousness-Learn to appreciate what you eat, how you prepare it and special meditative time involved in the preparation. Enjoy your special time and make it work for you.
2. Health -Plant based foods are loaded with fiber, antioxidants and phytochemicals. They are cholesterol free and mostly low in saturated fat.
3. Environmental - The food we eat impacts our environment. Raising animals for food in large "factory farming" operations uses large amounts of natural resources like grain, land and water. It produces water pollution, soil erosion and "greenhouse gases." A plant based diet uses fewer resources and takes less of a toll on the environment.
The latest statistics released by Vegetarian Times has quoted that 46% of Americans or 120 million people are reducing their meat consumption.
With so much right how can it be wrong for you. Add more veggies and fruit to your diet this month to support National Vegetarian Awareness month. Start with that. See how you feel. I bet you see a difference both spiritually , physically and morally.
You are what you eat.
Enough preaching now, but I really wanted you to realize how far it all goes. Think about it. Let me know how you all feel about it. Keep on blogging.
Until next week,
Cooking Class Miami Style
The Ever Ready Preppies-What a team!
This was the interactive cooking class in Miami. The AC was cranked up to 76 degrees. Outside was a scorching 100 degrees at least. Eat your heart out Northerners.
The oil was in the pan and the burgers were getting mixed. We covered not only the recipes and cooking but the consciousness to maintain in the kitchen. A peaceful and light atmosphere is essential. The only vibration in your food should be good ones. Keep any waste out of your kitchen. The trick is to strengthen your body not weaken it.
Say , "Om Shanti " to Maribel, Linnette and Maria. Om Shanti means I am a peaceful soul. Turn on the heat and let's get cooking...
